Stocks On A New High After Payroll Rises

Global Markets: Benchmark indices of the NYSE traded in green, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average Index traded 344.54 points or 1.24% higher at 28,022.33, the broader S&P 500 index traded 32.67 points or 1.05% higher at 3,150.10, and the technology benchmark index Nasdaq Composite expanded by 89.77 points or 1.05% higher at 8,660.47 (at the time of writing, before the U.S market close at 1:30 PM ET).

Global News: On 6th December 2019, the stocks opened in the green, after news reports suggested a payroll rise of 266,000 in the month of November 2019. Tesla’s cars had been reportedly approved for Government subsidies China, post which its stock rose by 1.6 per cent. Uber was down 1.2 per cent after issuing a report regarding 6,000 cases of abuse by drivers in the years between 2017 and 2018. Zoom Video’s outlook was underwhelming for the market and its stock fell massively by 9.1 per cent post that. General motors stock was not affected a lot after announcing a US $2.3 billion Joint Venture with LG Chem. Crowdstrike beat market estimates for its revenue and its stock jumped 2.2 per cent. American Outdoor brands lifted the full year outlook on its earnings and following which its stock was up by 4.4 per cent.

S&P 500 (SPX)

Top Performers*:Â Ulta Beauty Inc, SVB Financial Group and 3M Co are top gainers and increased by 10.53%, 3.86% and 3.07% respectively.

Worst Performers*: Cooper Companies Inc, D R Horton Inc, and Anthem Inc are the top three laggards and decreased by 2.82%, 1.78% and 1.51% respectively.

NASDAQ Composite (IXIC)

Top Performers*: Wellesley Bancorp Inc, KLX Energy Services Holdings Inc, and Onconova Therapeutics Inc are top gainers and increased by 29.57%, 29.08% and 27.35% respectively.

Worst Performers*: Taronis Technologies Inc, Correvio Pharma Corp and CHF Solutions Inc are the top three laggards and decreased by 26.45%, 25.00% and 11.76% respectively.

Top Performing Sectors*: Energy (up 1.37%), Industrials (up 1.07%) and Technology (up 0.92%).

Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI)

Top Performers*: 3M Co, Dow Inc and JP Morgan Chase & Co are top gainers and increased by 3.02%, 1.94% and 1.71% respectively.

Worst Performers*: UnitedHealth Group Inc decreased by 0.09%.

European Markets: The London’s broader equity benchmark index FTSE 100 traded at 101.81 points or 1.43% higher at 7,239.66, the FTSE 250 index snapped 225.70 points or 1.09% higher at 20,933.03, and the FTSE All-Share Index ended 53.37 points or 1.34% higher at 4,023.21 respectively. Another European equity benchmark index STOXX 600 ended at 407.35, up by 4.69 points or 1.16 per cent.

European News: In economic news as per latest data published by the Office of the National Statistics of the United Kingdom, the divide between the wealthy and the not so wealthy in the United Kingdom has increased in April 2016 and March 2018. Much of this wealth increase has been on account of rise in asset prices which tend benefit the wealthier more than the average class. In other economic news, British Pound Sterling has continued its gain today against most of the major currencies on the back of positive survey results showing victory for the conservative party. In business news, mortgage lender Halifax reported that price growth of houses in the United Kingdom has been the highest in seven months. It is to be noted that in the past few months there has been a downward slide in the prices on account of Brexit jittery. The rise in prices are a sign of improving mood on account of confirmation of an in deal Brexit and shifting of date of the event to January 2020.

London Stock Exchange (LSE)

Top Performers*: JTC PLC (JTC), RICARDO PLC (RCDO) and JUST GROUP PLC (JUST) are top performers of the day and up by 7.6%, 6.34% and 5.03% respectively.

Worst Performers*: MEARS GROUP PLC (MER), BLOOMSBURY PUBLISHING PLC Â (BMY) and LAMPRELL PLC (LAM) are the top three laggards of the day and down by 3.56%, 3.33% and 3.17% respectively.

FTSE 100 Index

Performers*: SMITH (DS) PLC (SMDS), ANTOFAGASTA PLC (ANTO) and EVRAZ PLC (EVR.) are the top three gainers in today’s session and up by 4.07%, 4.01% and 3.87% respectively.

Laggards*: FRESNILLO PLC (FRES), NMC HEALTH PLC (NMC), and UNITED UTILITIES GROUP PLC (UU) are top laggards at the FTSE 100 index and down by 2.24%, 2.00% and 0.81% respectively.

Active by Volume*: LLOYDS BANKING GROUP PLC (LLOY), GLENCORE PLC (GLEN), and ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND GROUP PLC (RBS).

Top Performing Sectors*: Basic Materials (+2.25%), Energy (+1.82%) and Consumer Cyclicals (+1.41%)

Worst Performing Sectors*: Telecommunications Services (-0.05%)

Forex Rates*: GBP/USD and EUR/GBP were quoting at 1.3136 and 0.8415, respectively.

Bond Yields*: U.S 10-Year Treasuries yield was quoting at 1.843%, and the UK 10-Year Government Bond yield was trading at 0.766%, respectively.
