Quick Glance at the European Markets’ Performance

US Markets: Broader indices in the United States traded in green - particularly, the S&P 500 index traded 16.42 points or 0.51 per cent higher at 3,210.35, Dow Jones Industrial Average Index expanded by 264.02 points or 0.97 per cent higher at 27,375.00, and the technology benchmark index Nasdaq Composite traded higher at 9,841.87, up by 27.79 points or 0.28 per cent against its previous day close (at the time of writing, before the U.S market close at 11:45 AM ET).

US News: Wall Street kept a momentum of the rally last week and opened higher on Monday as a surprise addition in jobs bolstered hopes of weathering the worst from the Covid-19 pandemic. Adjacently, the benchmark 10-year Treasury note yields remained over 0.9 per cent. Meanwhile, oil price jumped as OPEC cartel and its allies agreed to extend the production cut. Among the gaining stocks, Exxon Mobile and Chevron surged over 3.6 per cent and 1.8 per cent, with oil price surge. American Airlines soared over 6.5 per cent as it is set to ramp-up its domestic and international flight schedules. Similarly, Gilead Sciences rose 0.4 per cent after being approached by AstraZeneca for a merger. GameStop gained over 16.1 per cent post reopening the stores around the world. Among the decliner, Apple shed around 0.8 per cent after planning to launch a discounted services bundle.

S&P 500 (SPX)

Top Performers*: Coty Inc (COTY), Carnival Corp (CCL), and Boeing Co (BA.) shares increased by 15.35 per cent, 12.60 per cent and 11.34 per cent, respectively.

Non Performers*: ServiceNow Inc (NOW), Fortinet Inc (FTNT) and DexCom Inc (DXCM) shares decreased by 3.66 per cent, 3.37 per cent and 3.10 per cent, respectively.

NASDAQ Composite (IXIC)

Top Performers*: Extraction Oil & Gas Inc (XOG), Enochian Biosciences Inc (ENOB) and Supercom Ltd (SPCB) shares expanded by 153.88 per cent, 129.13 per cent and 70.75 per cent, respectively.

Worst Performers*: Opiant Pharmaceuticals Inc (OPNT), Ascena Retail Group Inc (ASNA) and Yatra Online Inc (YTRA) shares plunged by 27.27 per cent, 25.59 per cent and 22.67 per cent, respectively.

Top Performing Sectors*: Energy (+5.05 per cent), Financials (+1.27 per cent), and Basic Materials (+1.07 per cent).

Top Worst Sectors*: Technology (-1.03 per cent) and Healthcare (-0.28 per cent).

Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI)

Top Performers*: Boeing Co (BA.), Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (WBA) shares climbed by around 11.70 per cent, 4.15 per cent, respectively.

Worst Performers*: Intel Corp (INTC), Walmart Inc (WMT) and Microsoft Corp (MSFT) shares plunged by 1.76 per cent, 1.41 per cent and 1.40 per cent, respectively.

European Markets: The London’s broader equity benchmark index FTSE 100 traded at 11.71 points or 0.18 per cent lower at 6,472.59, the FTSE 250 index snapped at 92.42 points or 0.51 per cent lower at 18,136.90, and the FTSE All-Share Index ended 7.39 points or 0.21 per cent lower at 3,582.37, respectively. Another European index STOXX 600 ended down by 1.20 points or 0.32 per cent, at 374.12. Among other major European indices, DAX index closed the session at 12,819.59, down by 28.09 points or 0.22 per cent; CAC 40 index decreased by 22.27 points or 0.43 per cent and ended the trading session at 5,175.52.

European News: London and European rally took a step back and fell today. Meanwhile, as per the TheCityUK report, UK firms will need new equity issuance to manage COVID-19 debt surge. Also, Germany is planning to double the surcharge for climate protection on the vehicle tax. Among the gaining stocks, the oil stocks - BP PLC and Royal Dutch Shell rose over 3.4 per cent and 4.7 per cent, with a surge in oil prices. Oxford Biomedica jumped around 6.0 per cent post signing a manufacturing agreement. Among the decliners, AstraZeneca shed about 2.4 per cent after approaching Gilead Sciences for a merger. Plus500 dipped around 8.0 per cent after reporting a hit on its quarterly revenue.

London Stock Exchange

Top Three Performers*: BROWN (N) GROUP PLC (BWNG), KIER GROUP PLC (KIE) and METRO BANK PLC (MTRO) accelerated significantly by 28.77 per cent, 23.57 per cent and 22.11 per cent, respectively.

Worst Performers*: INTU PROPERTIES PLC (INTU), LOOKER PLC (LOOK) and AMIGO HOLDINGS PLC (AMGO) plunged by 21.11 per cent, 19.37 per cent and 17.29 per cent, respectively.

Best Gainers*: ROLLS-ROYCE HOLDINGS PLC (LON:RR), CARNIVAL PLC (LON:CCL) & CENTRICA PLC (LON:CNA) expanded by 15.17 per cent, 11.46 per cent and 7.55 per cent, respectively.

Non Performers*: OCDO GROUP PLC (LON:OCDO), MELROSE INDUSTRIES PLC (LON:MRO) and SMITH & NEPHEW PLV (LON: SN.) traded in red zone and decreased by 4.66 per cent, 4.43 per cent and 3.49 per cent, respectively.

Active Three Stocks (traded with high volume)*: (LLOY) LLOYDS BANKING GROUP PLC; (BARC) BARCLAYS PLC; (CNA) CENTRICA PLC.

Top Sectors traded in the positive zone*: Telecommunications Services (+3.20 per cent), Energy (+2.32 per cent), and Utilities (+2.02 per cent).

Top Sectors traded in the negative zone*: Healthcare (-2.03 per cent), Technology (-1.55 per cent) and Consumer Non-Cyclicals (-0.51 per cent).

Crude Oil Prices*: WTI crude oil (future) price was tilting at $38.15 per barrel, and Brent future crude oil (future) price was nudging at $40.86 per barrel.

Forex Rates*: GBP to USD and EUR to GBP were hovering at 1.2707 and 0.8893, respectively.

Bond Yields*: U.S 10-Year Treasury yield was tilting at 0.870 per cent, and the UK 10-Year Government Bond yield was hovering at 0.336 per cent, respectively.
