How the Global Markets’ Performed in Monday’s Trading Session?

US Markets: Broader indices in the United States traded in red - particularly, the S&P 500 index traded 29.81 points or 0.98 per cent lower at 3,011.50, Dow Jones Industrial Average Index contracted by 343.07 points or 1.34 per cent lower at 25,262.47, and the technology benchmark index Nasdaq Composite traded lower at 9,554.76, down by 34.05 points or 0.36 per cent against its previous day close (at the time of writing, before the U.S market close at 11:30 AM ET).

US News: Wall Street opened lower amid news of the resurgence of Covid-19 cases in China. The investors are also fearful of the increasing coronavirus cases in the US every day. The fears of the coronavirus news were also alarming for oil prices as Brent crude price fell by 0.46 per cent to USD 38.55 per barrel. Among the gaining stocks, Genius Brands gained 13.0 per cent post unveiling that Arnold Schwarzenegger agreed to be an investor. Moderna Inc gained 3.46 per cent as it was reported that Israel is in the talks to buy vaccines from the Company. Walmart announced a partnership with Shopify to expand its e-commerce business outreach and marginally rose 0.4 per cent. Among the decliners, Hertz Global tumbled around 13.0 per cent after its plan to raise USD 500 million at the stage of 11 bankruptcy proceedings. United Airlines and Norwegian Cruise Lines plummeted 7.2 per cent and 10.5 per cent, respectively, as cyclical stocks shed amid fears of a second wave of Covid-19 infections.

S&P 500 (SPX)

Top Performers*: Electronic Arts Inc (EA), Take-Two Interactive Software Inc (TTWO), and Equinix Inc (EQIX) stocks jumped by 3.25 per cent, 1.88 per cent and 1.71 per cent, respectively.

Non Performers*: Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH), Coty Inc (COTY) and United Airlines Holdings Inc (UAL) shares decreased by 8.54 per cent, 7.60 per cent and 7.06 per cent, respectively.

NASDAQ Composite (IXIC)

Top Performers*: Net Element Inc (NETE), China HGS Real Estate Inc (HGSH) and Edesa Biotech Inc (EDSA) shares expanded by 135.87 per cent, 126.67 per cent and 113.89 per cent, respectively.

Worst Performers*: Art’s Way Manufacturing Co Inc (ARTW), Town Sports International Holdings (CLUB) and Wah Fu Education Group Ltd (WAFU) shares plunged by 20.33 per cent, 18.40 per cent and 17.46 per cent, respectively.

Top Worst Sectors*: Energy (-1.74 per cent), Financials (-1.51 per cent) and Utilities (-1.41 per cent).

Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI)

Top Performer*: Walmart Inc (WMT) shares zoomed up by around 0.42 per cent.

Worst Performers*: Boeing Co (BA), Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM) and Chevron Corp (CVX) shares plunged by 4.56 per cent, 3.39 per cent and 3.15 per cent, respectively.

European Markets: The London’s broader equity benchmark index FTSE 100 traded at 40.48 points or 0.66 per cent lower at 6,064.70, the FTSE 250 index snapped at 11.83 points or 0.07 per cent higher at 17,089.17, and the FTSE All-Share Index ended 17.70 points or 0.52 per cent lower at 3,362.12, respectively. Another European index STOXX 600 ended down by 0.97 points or 0.27 per cent, at 353.09. Among other major European indices, DAX index closed the session at 11,911.35, down by 37.93 points or 0.32 per cent; CAC 40 index decreased by 23.54 points or 0.49 per cent and ended the trading session at 4,815.72.

European News: London and European markets tumbled with apprehensions of the second wave of the COVID-19 infection as new cases in Beijing rising concerns of slow economic growth. Meanwhile, estate agents in England witnessed a rebound in house sales post lifting the lockdown restrictions in May. Among the gaining stocks, Bunzl gained around 7.7 per cent as it estimates revenue growth in the first half of FY20. Among the decliners, the fear of the second wave of infection affected the travel stocks and thus, easyJet shed over 3.3 per cent, and Carnival dipped around 3.4 per cent. SThree slid around 1.8 per cent post reporting weak half-year fees. BP PLC slipped about 3.4 per cent as it would incur nearly USD 17.5 billion write off in the value of its assets.

London Stock Exchange

Top Three Performers*: DE LA RUE PLC (DLAR), LOOKERS PLC (LOOK) and FUNDING CIRCLE HOLDINGS PLC (FCH) accelerated significantly by 17.21 per cent, 14.05 per cent and 9.01 per cent, respectively.

Worst Performers*: AMIGO HOLDINGS PLC (AMGO), BROWN (N) GROUP PLC (BWNG) and ASA INTERNATIONAL GROUP PLC (ASAI) plunged by 10.26 per cent, 9.61 per cent and 9.24 per cent, respectively.

Best Gainers*: BUNZL PLC (LON:BNZL), M&G PLC (LON:MNG) & HARGREAVES LANSDOWN PLC (LON: HL.) leapt up by 8.55 per cent, 1.82 per cent and 1.52 per cent, respectively.

Non Performers*: FRESNILLO PLC (LON:FRES), BARRATT DEVELOPMENTS PLC (LON:BDEV) and ESAYJET PLC (LON:EZJ) traded in red zone and decreased by 6.82 per cent, 5.74 per cent and 4.92 per cent, respectively.

Crude Oil Future Prices*: WTI crude oil (future) price was hovering at $36.70 per barrel, and Brent future crude oil (future) price was trading at $39.44 per barrel.

Forex Rates*: GBP to USD and EUR to GBP were hovering at 1.2567 and 0.8985, respectively.

Bond Yields*: U.S 10-Year Treasury yield was tilting at 0.695 per cent, and the UK 10-Year Government Bond yield was hovering at 0.214 per cent, respectively.
