UK Market: The UK stock market was trading in the green on Friday, with the blue-chip FTSE100 index gaining over 1%. This happened after weaker-than-expected figures for China’s GDP growth were unveiled today. China’s GDP growth contracted to 0.4% in Q2, mainly due to Covid lockdowns. After the update, Burberry shares have taken a significant hit along with some mining shares. On the other hand, retailers and energy stocks, including BP and Shell, have gained.
Burberry Group plc (LON: BRBY): The shares of the UK-based fashion retailer, Burberry Group plc, dropped by 6.64%, with a day’s low of GBX 1,539.00. The company has said that Chinese lockdowns have led to the wiping off 35% from its regional sales.
BP plc (LON: BP.): The shares of the British oil giant, BP plc, surged by 2.76%, with a day’s high of GBX 374.00. The company has said yesterday that by 2025 it is planning to begin the production of green jet fuel in Australia.
Shell plc (LON: SHEL): The shares of the oil and gas business, Shell plc, rallied by 2.67%, with a day’s high of GBX 1,988.00. The company expects to generate $1 billion from the rising margins through its division engaged in crude processing.
US Markets: The US market is likely to get a mediocre start, as indicated by the futures indices. S&P 500 future was up by 2.50 points or 0.07% at 3,796.50, while the Dow Jones 30 future was up by 0.29% or 88 points at 30,690.00. However, the technology-heavy index Nasdaq Composite future was down by 0.15% or 17.75 points, at 11,778.50. (At the time of writing – 8:45 AM ET).
