The Swindon car plant of Honda is going to restart its production on Monday which had stopped since last Wednesday due to unavailability of car parts as a delay in imports.
- The firm which was already facing adverse effects of the pandemic was hit by the congestion at the major British container ports.
- It was reported that the firm was facing a shortage of car parts due to delays at ports in the run-up to the end of the Brexit transition period.
- Honda has informed its staff placed at its Swindon plant that the production will restart in all areas.
- The Swindon plant of the company produces the famous Civic car is scheduled to close altogether in July next year, but the company plans to continue to produce cars from the unit until then.
- Though carmakers such as Honda are particularly vulnerable to the disruption because of their “just-in-time” supply chains, the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic has hit almost all the auto manufacturers across the globe.
- Now the Brexit led anxiety has led to transport-related parts delays, though the company and other carmakers had already built-up stockpiles of some parts to ensure that they remain functional for a few weeks without imports from the EU if there is no trade deal.
