Johnson & Johnson's (J&J) unit Janssen Pharmaceutical has started the second phase III ENSEMBLE trial of Covid-19 vaccine.
- The company has already started the enrolment of participants for the two-dose trial process of vaccine candidate JNJ-78436735. These participants will be enrolled in various countries - UK, US, Belgium, Philippines, Germany, South Africa, Spain, Colombia and France.
- The most important thing is that this trial will run simultaneously with the Phase III ENSEMBLE study of the single-dose regimen of JNJ-78436735. This trial will analyse the safety and impact of the two-dose vaccine regimen as compared to inactive drugs in adults with and without comorbidities related to an increased risk for severe Covid-19.
- Half of the people on trial in the UK will be given a placebo vaccine of saline and plans are afoot that ethnic groups and older people, who are most vulnerable to Covid-19, will be included in the trial.
- After Pfizer’s announcement last week that their vaccine is 90 per cent effective, development of the Jannsen vaccine will be another good news as it is one of the six experimental Covid-19 vaccines that Britain plans to procure for its masses.
