- SEC fast-tracks approval for Bitwise’s hybrid Bitcoin-Ethereum ETF.
- ETF provides direct exposure to Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) in a single fund.
- Approval reflects a broader trend of growing crypto acceptance under the current regulatory environment.
On Thursday, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved the Bitwise Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF for listing and trading on NYSE Arca, marking a significant development in the crypto space. This hybrid ETF allows exposure to both Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) in a single fund, with Coinbase’s custody service managing the holdings.
This fast-tracked approval from the SEC is seen as part of a broader trend in the regulatory landscape, especially as the commission has recently cleared other crypto investment products like the Hashdex and Franklin Templeton ETFs in December. These developments indicate a growing acceptance of digital assets, possibly influenced by a more crypto-friendly stance under the Trump administration.
The Bitwise ETF’s asset allocation comprises 83% Bitcoin and 17% Ethereum, based on each asset's market capitalization and circulating supply. The net asset value of the fund will be calculated daily, reflecting real-time trade data from major exchanges. The SEC’s move to expedite approval of this ETF is interpreted by some analysts as a potential sign of faster action from the commission on future crypto products. Bitwise, too, expressed confidence that regulatory shifts could extend the current bull market into 2026 and beyond, as Washington continues to embrace digital assets more openly.
Though Bitwise’s Bitcoin-Ethereum ETF has cleared its 19b-4 approval, it still requires SEC approval for its Form S-1 registration before trading can commence. The approval process reflects the growing momentum for crypto-related products in traditional financial markets, indicating a potential new era for cryptocurrency accessibility.
