Highlights

  • Crypto Quantique (CTQ) upgrades its QuarkLink platform with hybrid post-quantum cryptographic security.
  • QuarkLink aims to secure IoT devices against both current and future quantum-based threats.
  • Hybrid-PQC support is now available for Embedded Linux, with MCU support slated for early 2025.

Crypto Quantique (LON:CTQ), a pioneer in quantum-driven IoT security solutions, has unveiled an enhanced version of its QuarkLink IoT device security platform. The upgrade introduces a hybrid post-quantum cryptographic algorithm designed to ensure robust protection for Internet of Things (IoT) devices and industrial PCs. This move comes as quantum computing continues to pose potential risks to traditional encryption systems.

QuarkLink is a scalable, cloud-based platform that simplifies the process of embedding security functions into connected devices. It integrates with popular microcontroller units (MCUs) and industrial PCs running Linux, offering a wide range of security features such as secure boot, firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) updates, device identity management, and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI). The platform’s hybrid security approach combines the classical elliptic curve Diffie-Hellman key exchange, X25519, with the quantum-resistant Kyber algorithm (ML-KEM), forming a robust defense against both present-day and future cyber threats.

The new hybrid key encapsulation mechanism, X25519Kyber768Draft00, integrates well with current security protocols while providing quantum resilience. This dual-layer approach safeguards IoT devices against immediate classical attacks while preparing for the quantum era, where traditional encryption could become vulnerable. Furthermore, the platform addresses concerns over “store-now/decrypt-later” attacks, where attackers could collect encrypted data today and decrypt it later when quantum computers are more capable.

QuarkLink’s hybrid post-quantum cryptography (PQC) functionality is currently available for MPUs running Embedded Linux. Support for MCUs is expected to roll out in the first quarter of 2025. This strategic upgrade is positioned to benefit industries heavily reliant on secure IoT devices, such as manufacturing, automotive, and healthcare.

CEO Shahram Mossayebi commented on the update, emphasizing that it showcases Crypto Quantique’s leadership in IoT security. He highlighted that the enhanced platform not only reduces development costs and time but also positions companies adopting QuarkLink to maintain long-term security in an increasingly quantum-driven world.

As cybersecurity challenges evolve, Crypto Quantique's advancements ensure that the QuarkLink platform remains a future-proof solution for securing IoT infrastructure, blending immediate defense with readiness for quantum computing threats.
