Job Numbers Declined Dramatically in April 2020

Covid 19 restrictions resulted in a record job numbers fall of 37,500 in April 2020, said Stats NZ.

April 2020 witnessed the biggest fall of 1.7 per cent as compared to the previous month when the fall was flat.

As per economic statistics manager Sue Chapman, due to the lockdown in the entire month, pandemic's impact is now being reflected in falling job numbers. Some people could work from home, but non-essential businesses shut down during the lockdown.

Ms Chapman said fall in filled jobs doesn't mean employment has ceased in all cases.
