MetaMask Users Can Now Access Cardano with New Wallet Snap Integration

In the cryptocurrency sector, MetaMask, a leading Ethereum wallet provider, has announced a new feature that allows its users to interact with the Cardano blockchain. This development comes through the integration of a Cardano wallet Snap, created by Web3 self-custody wallet provider NuFi.

Cardano Wallet Snap Integration Details

The integration introduces the Cardano (ADA) wallet Snap to MetaMask, enabling users to manage Cardano accounts and interact with Cardano decentralized applications (dApps). This functionality allows MetaMask users to handle Cardano native assets, including ADA and various other tokens, directly from their Ethereum wallet.

NuFi's Cardano wallet Snap leverages MetaMask's Snap feature, which permits third-party developers to extend MetaMask's capabilities with community-built extensions. With this addition, MetaMask users can generate Cardano keys using their existing MetaMask seed phrase. They can also use the feature to purchase ADA with credit cards or swap other assets for Cardano’s native token.

How to Add the Cardano Snap

Adding the Cardano Wallet Snap to MetaMask is straightforward and does not require technical expertise. Users need to install the Snap, visit the NuFi platform, and link MetaMask to the extended wallet. Once the Snap is installed, users will receive a Cardano Wallet and address for receiving funds and interacting with Cardano dApps.

Users can explore the Cardano dApp directory and connect their preferred applications to the Cardano Wallet via the NuFi widget. Transactions must be approved within the Snap and confirmed in the MetaMask interface before being submitted to the Cardano blockchain. This Cardano Wallet Snap is compatible with MetaMask version 12.0.0 and above.

Impact of the Chang Hard Fork on Cardano

This integration follows the completion of Cardano’s Chang hard fork on September 1, 2024, marking the transition to the Voltaire era. The hard fork has garnered significant support from various crypto projects.

Additionally, Cardano’s major competitor, Polkadot, has welcomed Cardano’s new on-chain governance features. There is also speculation that DexScreener, a leading decentralized exchange (DEX) analytics platform, may soon support Cardano. Discussions are underway with Cardano-based decentralized exchanges such as Dex Hunter, Minswap, and Saturn Swap regarding potential future integrations.
