The old dollar bills will be in use for day-to-day transactions till the end of December 2020, after which businesses can no longer accept them. In an official reminder on November 19, the Bank of Canada said that bills of C$ 1, C$ 2, C$ 25, C$ 500, and C$ 1,000 will no longer have legal tender status from January 1, 2021, onward.
