Musk Metals Corp. (CSE:MUSK) has announced a strategic expansion of its Lac du Km 35 Germanium Property, located near the mining town of Chibougamau, Québec. The property now consists of 75 claims, covering a total area of 4,150 hectares (41.5 km²), further enhancing the company's position in the region. This move strengthens Musk Metals' focus on developing its highly prospective germanium assets in the Nord-du-Québec area.
The Lac du Km 35 Germanium Property lies approximately 40 kilometers east of Chibougamau and boasts excellent accessibility via Highway 167 and a main lumber road that traverses the entire property. This convenient infrastructure is a key advantage for exploration and potential future development. The property is situated within a geologically rich area underlain by the Roy Group’s volcano-sedimentary sequence and the Laganière gneissic Complex, which hosts the Lac Doré intrusive suite—a significant geological formation associated with the Abitibi greenstone belt.
One of the most important geological features of the property is the Faribault Shear Zone (FSZ), which runs east-southeast through the eastern portion of the land. This shear zone, dipping to the southwest, is an important structural element that could potentially serve as a conduit for hydrothermal fluids, which may have contributed to the mineralization in the region. Additionally, the FSZ’s proximity to the Grenville Front, which separates the Abitibi greenstone belt from younger Mesoproterozoic rocks, adds to the geological interest of the area.
A notable discovery within the property is the Laganière Germanium showing, initially identified by government geologists in 1998. This germanium deposit, located within the Laganière gneissic Complex, has shown promising results, with samples returning a value of 0.02% germanium (186 ppm)—the highest ever reported from an outcrop in the region. Although the showing has remained largely underexplored since its discovery, it sits near several unexplored electromagnetic anomalies, enhancing its potential for further exploration.
In 2024, Musk Metals conducted its own exploration work, which included prospecting and sampling across the property. The results were encouraging, with 39 outcrop samples collected, yielding values up to 0.27% nickel, 0.04% cobalt, 0.24% copper, and 0.21 g/t gold. While germanium values were not reliably determined due to the digestion method used, the presence of these base metals suggests significant mineralization potential within the property. The exploration results, along with the proximity to known geologically significant features, strengthen the case for further development of the Lac du Km 35 Germanium Property.
