TSX Composite Slips 198 Points; Suncor Energy Most Active Stock

In the Thursday trading session, the TSX Composite Index ended 198.28 points or 1.21% lower to 16,185.32. Suncor Energy Inc., Canadian Natural Resources Limited, Enbridge Inc., and Manulife Financial Corporation were the most actively traded stocks during Thursday’s trading session.

From the technical standpoint, the broader TSX Composite Index traded below its crucial short-term support level of 50-day and 30-day Simple Moving Averages (SMA). But it managed to close above the long-term crucial support level of 200-day SMA. The 14-day Relative Strength Index (RSI), which typically considered as leading momentum indicator is hovering in a neutral zone and tilted towards its oversold zone.

Stock Cues

Top Performers: ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc (up 5.62%), Cargojet Inc (up 3.39%), Transcontinental Inc (up 2.94%), Lightspeed POS Inc (up 2.62%) and Pason Systems Inc (up 2.24%), respectively.

Top Losers: Enerplus Corp (down8.51%), Vermilion Energy Inc (down 7.18%), Descartes Systems Group Inc (down 6.54%), Husky Energy Inc (down 4.66%), Kinaxis Inc (down 3.97%) respectively.

On Wall Street: The global benchmark indices of the United States traded in red zone on Thursday. The Dow Jones Industrials slumped 405.89 points or 1.45% to 27,534.58, the technology benchmark Nasdaq Composite index slumped 1.99% or 221.97 points to 10,919.59 and the S&P 500 index traded 1.76% or 60 points lower to 3,339.19, respectively.

Commodity Cues*

International Oil benchmark Brent Oil slumped approximately 1.79% to US$ 40.06/bbl and WTI Crude Oil down 1.97% to US$ 37.30/bbl.

Gold futures traded 0.48% higher on Wednesday and settled at US$ 1,964.30/oz.

U.S Dollar index traded 0.09% higher at 93.34 against the basket of major currencies.
