S&P/TSX Composite Index gains over 100 points on Monday

On TSX: The S&P/ TSX Composite Index ended Monday’s session in positive territory, adding 108.79 points or 0.66% to 16,626.64. Energy and financial stocks were the biggest movers. The energy and financial indices were up 4.3% and 1.67%, respectively.

The TSX Composite Index traded above crucial short-term and long-term moving averages of 5-day, 10-day, 20-day, 30-day, 50-day, 100-day and 200-day simple moving averages, reflecting an uptrend in the market. The leading momentum indicator –14-day Relative Strength Index – hovered in neutral zone, tilting towards the bullish zone.

The junior equity benchmark TSX Venture Composite Index lost 6.59 points or 0.90% at 730.31 on Monday.

52-Week High/Low: Sixty stocks on the TSX recorded 52-week high price on August 24th trading session while eight stocks tested a 52-week low price. Tourmaline Oil Corp, RTG Mining Inc, GoldMining Inc, AcuityAds Holdings Inc and Champion Iron Ltd are among the stocks tested a new 52-week high while Echelon Financial Holdings Inc, Nevada Copper Corp and Wall Financial Corp are among those tested 52-week low price.

On Wall Street: The technology benchmark index, Nasdaq Composite, set an all-time high record for the sixth consecutive day in a row, ending 0.60% higher to 11,379.72. S&P 500 Index, the broader gauge of the US market, also witnessed new all-time high for the second straight day and settled 1% higher to 3,413.288. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 378.13 points or 1.35% to hit 28,308.46.

Crude Oil*: WTI Crude Oil futures up 0.42% to US$ 42.62/bbl and Brent Oil Futures up 0.22% to US$ 45.13/bbl.

Forex*: Dollar Index up 0.09% to 93.28. CAD/USD down 0.31% to 0.7564.
