Highlights
- Recent drilling confirms extension of mineralization to the southeast at Piuquenes Central
- Drillhole completed to full planned depth with visible porphyry-style mineralization throughout
- Project is strategically located within Argentina’s active San Juan Miocene porphyry copper belt
The copper-gold exploration sector remains active across South America's Andean regions, particularly within the San Juan Miocene porphyry belt in Argentina. This region hosts numerous porphyry systems and ongoing development efforts by several global mining entities. Pampa Metals Corp., a company focused on exploration-stage assets, continues advancing its efforts at the Piuquenes Project, situated in the province of San Juan.
Extension of Mineralization at Piuquenes Central
Pampa Metals recently completed a drillhole at the Piuquenes Central area of its copper-gold porphyry project. The drillhole was located along the western margin of the porphyry system and reached its planned final depth. Drilling intersected porphyry-style veining from near surface to the end of hole, indicating continuity of the mineral system along both western and southeastern extents. Geologic logging confirmed the presence of mineralized porphyry phases and associated hydrothermal alteration. Analytical results from the drill core are currently awaited.
Strategic Proximity to Major Porphyry Deposits
The Piuquenes Central zone lies adjacent to the extensive Altar porphyry copper complex, placing it within a region well-recognized for large-scale copper systems. Several kilometers to the south lies another significant project, El Pachón, operated by a major multinational mining company. The Los Pelambres operation, one of the larger producing mines in the region, is located across the border in Chile. Additional porphyry projects, such as Los Azules, add to the area's recognized status as a corridor of copper mineralization.
Standalone Porphyry Target at Piuquenes East
In parallel with activity at Piuquenes Central, the company has conducted its initial drilling at Piuquenes East. This separate porphyry occurrence was explored for the first time during recent months. The target was defined through surface mapping and geophysical data prior to drilling. As with Piuquenes Central, laboratory results from this initial exploration phase are pending.
Active Corporate Presence Across the Belt
The San Juan porphyry belt continues to draw attention from large-scale mining groups. Exploration and project development activity remains high throughout the region. Companies with active interests across the belt include globally recognized names, contributing to sustained technical and operational engagement across both sides of the Argentina-Chile border.
