The benchmark indices of the Canadian stock exchange ended Tuesday’s session lower, with broader TSX Composite Index gauge giving up 108.49 points or 0.65% to 16,497.01 and TSX Venture Composite Index declining by 30.22 points or 4.04% to 771.45. Other broad indices like S&P/TSX Base Metals Index, S&P/TSX Capped Information Technology Index and S&P/TSX Capped Healthcare Index slumped 1.57%, 0.86% and 2.61% lower, respectively on Tuesday.

On Wallstreet: Benchmark indices of the United States traded in red on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average Index declining by 104.53 points or 0.38% to 27,689.91, the S&P 500 Index slumping 26.78 points or 0.80% to 3,33369 and the Nasdaq Composite Index tanking by 185.53 points or 1.69% to 10,782.82. Financials and Industrials were the only constituent sectors of the S&P 500 index that traded in green on Tuesday. Utilities, Technology and Telecommunication were among the laggards, respectively.
On Macro Front: Boosted by ground-breaking sales, the Canadian housing starts rose in July on multiple-unit and single-family urban homes as the market continued to bounce back from COVID-19 crisis, data from the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) showed on Tuesday. The seasonally adjusted annualized rate of housing starts rose to 245,604 units from a revised 212,095 units in June, the national housing agency said. Economists had expected starts to dip to 210,000.
