The TSX Composite Index gained 0.64 per cent, 121.56 points, to 19,104.48, on Monday, July 25. Technology was the only major sector that closed in the red, down 1.3 per cent.
It was a decent showing by commodity stocks that rebounded, energy spiking 3.6 per cent and base metals up 2.3 per cent. They were among the day’s biggest gainers.
Healthcare was in the green too, up 0.8 per cent and financials and industrials were each up 0.4 per cent ahead of a number of upcoming earnings reports.

Manulife Financial Corporation saw 11.3 million shares traded, making it the most active stock. It was followed by Enbridge Inc that saw 9.8 million shares switch hands, and Athabasca Oil Corporation saw 7.9 million shares traded.

On Wall Street, the Dow was up 90.75 points, 0.28 per cent, to 31,990.04 points, while the S&P 500 pushed higher by 5.21 points, 0.13 per cent, to 3,966.84 points. Nasdaq’s benchmark decreased by 51.45 points, 0.43 per cent, to 11,782.67.
Gold was down 0.2 per cent to US$ 1,719.10. The price of Brent rose 1.35 per cent and was at US$ 99.98/bbl and that of crude oil was up 1.38 per cent to US$ 96.22/bbl.
