US stocks end flat amid corporate earnings; GE up 9%

The US stocks ended flat on Tuesday as the investors eyed the corporate earnings of select blue-chip companies and tech firms. 

The S&P 500 slipped from its record high to close at 3,849.62, down 0.15 per cent. While the Dow Jones ended 0.074 per cent lower at 30,937.04, the NASDAQ Composite settled down 0.073 per cent at 13,626.06.

Shares of General Electric surged 9 per cent after the company posted better-than-expected results for the fourth quarter.

The US stocks ended flat on Tuesday as the investors eyed the corporate earnings of select blue-chip companies and tech firms. The market also waited for a new policy statement from the Federal Reserve as the central bank commended its two-day meeting today. The fourth-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) data is also scheduled to be announced on Thursday.
