Highlights

  • RocketDNA (RKT) deploys its first xBot inspection drone internationally to Congo.
  • The xBot technology aims to enhance mining asset inspections and reduce labor demands.
  • The contract value is US$62,000, with potential for higher-value opportunities ahead.

RocketDNA (ASX:RKT), a developer of advanced autonomous inspection technologies, has shipped its inaugural xBot inspection drone to Kamoa Copper in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This milestone marks the company’s first international deployment of its xBot, designed specifically for critical mine asset inspections in challenging environments.

The xBot drone is engineered to carry out essential inspections on chimney stacks, rooftops, conveyor belts, and smelters. This advanced autonomous technology minimizes the need for manual labor in hazardous conditions, aligning with industry demands for cost efficiency and safety improvements.

The shipment to Kamoa Copper is part of a US$62,000 contract, which reflects a modest beginning for the xBot in the mining sector. This value is significantly lower than RocketDNA's recent $300,000 contract for its PatrolBot, an earthbound equivalent of the xBot, used for similar asset monitoring tasks.

The deal has sparked mixed reactions within the market. Some stakeholders expressed concerns about the contract's size compared to previous agreements, noting the limited financial impact on the company's revenue. However, others highlighted the strategic importance of this deployment, suggesting it could pave the way for future contracts with higher value. The introduction of such technology at Kamoa Copper could attract further interest if the xBot delivers on its promise to reduce labor costs and enhance efficiency.

Christopher Clark, RocketDNA’s CEO, emphasized the xBot’s potential to address mining sector challenges. “Our xBot technology is purpose-built for challenging environments like mining. This first deployment in the DRC underscores our commitment to supporting enterprise customers with cutting-edge technology,” he said.

RocketDNA’s focus on leveraging AI and autonomous systems places it at the forefront of innovation in mining inspections. While the initial contract value is modest, the deployment of xBot at Kamoa Copper could provide a platform for the company to demonstrate its technology’s value, positioning it for more substantial opportunities in the future.

This milestone reflects RocketDNA’s ongoing efforts to expand its global presence and showcases the growing demand for advanced solutions in mining operations. By targeting key pain points such as safety and efficiency, RocketDNA aims to redefine inspection processes in the mining industry.
