  • Global Testing: Cobalt Blue is trialing ReMine Plus on mine tailings in Europe, Canada, and Australia for widespread adoption.

Cobalt Blue Holdings Ltd (ASX:COB, OTC:CBBHF), an Australian developer of critical mineral extraction technology, has endorsed the Tasmanian Government’s new Minerals Royalty Rebate Scheme. Announced by Tasmanian Minister for Business, Industry, and Resources Eric Abetz on 30 October 2024, the initiative offers financial incentives for the reprocessing of historic mine tailings and the reopening of legacy mining sites. The scheme also aims to support environmental rehabilitation efforts, making Tasmania a leader in sustainable mining practices.

ReMine Plus: Cobalt Blue’s Groundbreaking Technology

Cobalt Blue’s innovative ReMine Plus technology, the result of seven years of research and development, is designed to address both critical mineral extraction and environmental challenges. With a focus on recovering high-purity cobalt and nickel sulphate, ReMine Plus enables the sustainable reprocessing of mine waste while removing harmful acid-forming sulphide materials. The technology not only extracts valuable resources from tailings but also helps rehabilitate mined areas by reducing environmental hazards.

Dr. Helen Degeling, manager of ReMine Plus at Cobalt Blue, praised Tasmania’s forward-thinking approach. “Tasmania is leading the way in Australia and globally by recognising the immense potential of reprocessing mine waste,” Dr. Degeling said. She expressed optimism that the new initiative would set a precedent for other states and countries to pursue more responsible and sustainable mining practices.

The Role of the Minerals Royalty Rebate Scheme

The Tasmanian Government’s new rebate scheme aims to make legacy mine sites operational again while encouraging companies to focus on environmental restoration alongside mineral extraction. By reducing the royalty costs for reprocessing historic tailings, the scheme aligns with both Tasmania’s economic and environmental goals, offering a blueprint for integrating mining with ecological responsibility.

Expanding Global Applications for ReMine Plus

Cobalt Blue is currently conducting trials of its ReMine Plus technology on mine tailings from sites in Europe, Canada, and Australia to assess its global applicability. These tests underscore the growing need for sustainable mining practices worldwide and support the company’s commitment to providing a viable solution for mineral recovery and environmental restoration.

As Cobalt Blue continues to refine its metallurgical processes, it is positioned at the forefront of the critical mineral industry, which is crucial to the global energy transition. The company’s advancements in sustainable mining technology and its support for Tasmania’s royalty rebate initiative mark a significant step forward in the development of responsible mining solutions.
