Process engineering contracting and consulting company, GR Engineering Services Limited (ASX:GNG), on 7 October 2022, shared an update about a contract with Thunderbird Operations Pty Ltd (TOPL).
GR Engineering, on 24 March 2022, shared via ASX announcement that it has received an engineering, procurement and construction contract with TOPL for Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project, situated between Derby and Broome in Western Australia. Reportedly, the contract deals with the mineral processing plant and related facilities of the project.
According to the announcement (dated 24 march), the contract sum is AU$179.5 million.
What update was shared by GR Engineering?
GR Engineering mentioned (in the 24 March announcement) that it would begin with limited work until being provided with full notice to proceed before the final investment decision made by KMS (Kimberley Minerals Sands Pty Limited) in regard to the commencement of development work at the project.
On Friday, the company informed that KMS had finalised its investment decisions. Also, TOPL has issued the full notice to proceed with the limited work.
About Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project
The project is being developed by KMS. It consists of an ilmenite open-cut mine and large-scale zircon and separation plant and mineral concentration. The forecasted mine life is 40 years, and the project has 680 million tonnes of reserves with 11% heavy mineral grading.
According to the company’s official website, the early works for the construction and design of the separation plant and mineral concentration have begun.
GR Engineering said that the project delivery method for the project would be performance-based. The company also informed that the scope of the project work includes commissioning, designing, procurement, engineering and construction of the concentrate upgrade plant, concentrator plant and associated facilities and services.
Reportedly, the site work is expected to start shortly after the wet season of the first quarter of 2022. By the fourth quarter of 2023, the commissioning of the plant is expected to be completed.
