Indiana Resources Ltd (ASX:IDA) has achieved notable advancements in its exploration efforts at the Minos rare earth elements (REE) prospect, located in South Australia. Recent hydrometallurgical test work has demonstrated impressive recoveries, underscoring the potential of this project.
Hydrometallurgical Test Work Results
Indiana Resources has completed a comprehensive round of hydrometallurgical testing on the Minos REE prospect, yielding a notable 90.5% recovery in Total Rare Earth Elements (TREE). The testing program incorporated several key processes, including:
- Wet Screening
- Bulk Sighter Flotation
- Thermal Roast/Water Leach
- Acid Sighter Leaching
The acid sighter leaching segment yielded substantial recoveries of 87.8% for Heavy Rare Earth Elements (HREE) and 90.8% for Light Rare Earth Elements (LREE). These results are indicative of the significant potential of the Minos prospect to deliver high-grade rare earth concentrates.
Bulk flotation work also revealed high recovery rates to flotation concentrate for the minus 0.15mm fraction, highlighting the efficiency of the current processing techniques. Indiana Resources plans to continue with a detailed program of hydrometallurgical and beneficiation optimization test work to further refine these results.
Minos Prospect and Central Gawler Craton Exploration Project
The Minos prospect covers an area of 6 kilometres by 4.5 kilometres and forms a part of Indiana’s larger Central Gawler Craton exploration project (CGCP) in South Australia. The CGCP spans a significant 5,713 square kilometres, underscoring the scale of exploration potential within the region.
Historical drilling results from Minos have indicated a high-grade REE potential, with notable intercepts including:
- 26 metres at 4,767ppm Total Rare Earth Oxide (TREO)
- 1,894ppm Mixed Rare Earth Oxide (MREO) from 46 metres
- 1 metre at 46,721ppm TREO
- 22,255ppm MREO from 48 metres
These high-grade intercepts reinforce the potential of the Minos prospect as a significant player in the REE sector.
Forward-Looking Statements
Executive Chair Bronwyn Barnes has expressed optimism about the recent test results, which reflect positively on Indiana Resources' expectations for the Minos prospect. Barnes highlighted the promising nature of the initial sighter test work and the strong recoveries of both TREO and MREO to a 4% TREO flotation concentrate.
The company is poised to advance to the next phase of hydrometallurgical test work, focusing on acid leaching of the concentrate. These ongoing efforts aim to better define the size and scope of the 6km x 4.5km REE target, which remains open in all directions.
The encouraging results from Minos position Indiana Resources favorably as it continues to explore and develop its REE assets, contributing to the broader goals of the Central Gawler Craton exploration project.
