  • Endeavour Group plans a trial of electronic gaming technology in Victoria by 2025.
  • Focuses on harm minimisation and compliance with government regulations.
  • Engages in discussions with authorities for anti-money laundering and harm reduction measures.

Endeavour Group (ASX:EDV), a leading owner of hotels and liquor chains, is set to trial advanced electronic gaming machine (EGM) technology in its Victorian hotels starting in 2025. This initiative aligns with the Victorian government’s strategy to implement harm minimisation measures for poker machine operations. The move reflects a proactive approach to adapt to new regulatory requirements while prioritising responsible gaming practices.

New gaming regulations were introduced in Victoria on August 30, mandating specific closure periods for gaming machine areas in hotels and clubs. These measures aim to limit excessive gaming losses. In response, Endeavour Group has announced its plans to integrate Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) into its operations. The company draws confidence from its successful trials of FRT in South Australia and other states, showcasing its effectiveness in reducing harm associated with gaming.

Commitment to Safer Gaming and Regulatory Compliance

The company has expressed support for the reduction of cash load-up limits to $100 on its EGMs in Victoria, a practice already implemented in its South Australian venues. Additionally, EGMs in ALH Hotels, owned by Endeavour Group, are already configured with three-second spin rates, aligning with harm minimisation standards.

Endeavour Group continues to engage in discussions with the Victorian government, exploring further initiatives to enhance anti-money laundering measures and minimise potential gaming-related harm. This collaborative approach highlights the company's dedication to meeting both regulatory expectations and social responsibility goals.

Financial Impact of Gaming in Victoria

The scale of gaming activity in Victoria remains significant. For the financial year ending June 30, 2023, gaming machine losses across the state amounted to $3 billion, according to the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission. As a major operator, Endeavour Group acknowledges its role in addressing the challenges associated with gaming while ensuring compliance with evolving regulations.

By embracing technological advancements and working closely with authorities, Endeavour Group (ASX:EDV) aims to create a safer and more responsible gaming environment. This proactive stance underscores its commitment to balancing operational success with community welfare and regulatory compliance.
