International Graphite Ltd has made notable strides in advancing its Springdale Graphite Project in Western Australia. Recently, the company was granted mining lease M47/0253 by the Western Australian Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation, and Safety. This lease approval marks a crucial step in the development and permitting process for IG6's project, which is strategically located near Ravensthorpe and Hopetoun on the southern coast. Notably, this lease covers the Mason Bay deposit within the wholly owned Springdale Project area, while a second lease, M47/0252, covering the Springdale Central deposits, is still pending.
With a focus on responsible resource development, International Graphite has completed comprehensive environmental assessments, including detailed mapping of local flora and fauna. The findings from these surveys indicated that the project area had already been cleared for agricultural use, allowing proposed mining activities to move forward with minimal environmental impact on the existing natural vegetation and wildlife.
To support the environmental and technical planning for the Springdale Project, IG6 conducted a LiDAR drone survey during the third quarter of the year. The data collected from this survey is now aiding hydrological assessments, ensuring that the company's approach to resource extraction remains informed by advanced environmental studies. Moving forward, International Graphite has announced plans for additional drilling activities scheduled for early 2025.
The Springdale Graphite Project currently holds Australia’s second-largest graphite resource, with a mineral resource estimate of 49.3 million tonnes at a grade of 6.5% total graphitic carbon. This resource is expected to significantly contribute to IG6’s objectives of optimizing milling processes and increasing graphite concentrate output.
In a collaborative effort with the German graphite specialists ProGraphite GmbH, IG6 recently achieved promising results in the production of high-purity spherical graphite products. These two products, SpG11 and SpG18, not only meet but exceed industry standards for battery-grade anode materials, achieving a purity level of 99.99% compared to the standard 99.97%. With yields reaching up to 76%, these results highlight the suitability of the Springdale resource for the expanding lithium-ion battery market, positioning International Graphite as a key contributor in the sector’s supply chain.
International Graphite’s ongoing efforts underscore its commitment to a comprehensive mine-to-market production strategy, where innovation in processing and environmental stewardship remain central. With the upcoming drilling and continued focus on high-purity products, IG6 aims to strengthen its role in the battery materials industry, capitalizing on the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions.
