Petratherm extends heavy mineral sands mineralisation at Rosewood by a significant distance
High-grade results from early drilling phase confirm widespread heavy mineral presence
Bulk sampling and further exploration underway at Muckanippie project in South Australia
Petratherm (ASX:PTR), listed on the ASX 200, has expanded its presence in the mining sector with new drilling results reinforcing the strength of its heavy mineral sands discovery at the Rosewood prospect within the Muckanippie project in South Australia. The company’s recent aircore drilling program has returned high-grade intersections and confirmed a significant extension of strike, contributing to its growing footprint in titanium-rich sands.
Drilling Confirms Extension and Higher Grades
Initial results from the first portion of an ongoing aircore drilling program at Rosewood have revealed notable intersections with grades exceeding those recorded in earlier phases. The mineralisation now stretches further in a north-south orientation and remains open to the north, with the northernmost drill hole indicating consistent heavy mineral content near the surface. The mineralisation has shown continuity and thickness across a large area, reinforcing previous findings from outcropping and wide-spaced historical drilling.
High-Value Mineral Composition and Sampling Plans
The Rosewood prospect is yielding heavy mineral sands with a high concentration of valuable components, predominantly titanium dioxide minerals. Mineralogical has shown that the composition of the recovered sands contains a significant proportion of usable material. With shallow depths and favorable geologic characteristics, the mineralisation is amenable to free-digging methods and typical separation techniques used in heavy mineral sands operations.
Petratherm is preparing to commence bulk sample testing to assess separation processes and create its first heavy mineral sample products. These activities are aimed at better understanding the processing characteristics of the sands and will serve as a foundation for further technical evaluations at the site.
Expanding Project Footprint Across Multiple Tenements
The Muckanippie project area includes Petratherm’s 100 owned tenements, as well as joint venture interests in EL 6715 with Narryer Metals (ASX:NYM) and EL 6873 with G4 Metals. The geology of the region is influenced by the Muckanippie Suite, an intrusive complex known to be prospective for a range of critical minerals including vanadium, platinum group elements, and titanium.
Ongoing Exploration to Continue Across High-Priority Zones
Petratherm is planning a third phase of exploration in the coming weeks to further delineate the extent of mineralisation across the Rosewood area. The company has stated that the high-grade intersections, consistent thickness, and lateral continuity support additional drilling aimed at expanding the current discovery.
The latest exploration outcomes at Rosewood are based on a foundation laid in earlier fieldwork when titanium-rich outcrops were first identified, followed by reassessment of historic drill data and subsequent step-out drilling. These initiatives have uncovered a broad mineralised area spanning several square kilometers.
The company’s activities in the mineral sands sector continue to focus on confirming the scale and composition of the resource, with future exploration designed to deepen understanding of the broader geological setting and identify further zones of heavy mineral enrichment.
