Highlights

  • Ionic Rare Earths Ltd (ASX:IXR, OTC:IXRRF) delivers its first shipment of recycled rare earth oxides to Brazil

  • Recycled materials sourced from end-of-life magnets processed in Belfast

  • EMR partnership set to secure sustainable feedstock for rare earth recovery in the UK

Ionic Rare Earths Ltd (ASX:IXR), (OTC:IXRRF), operating within the rare earths and sustainable materials sector, has confirmed the delivery of its first shipment of recycled rare earth oxides to Brazil. This development marks progress in the global supply chain for critical minerals, aligning with the broader clean energy themes influencing indexes such as the ASX 200, FTSE, and OTCQX.

The shipment originated from Ionic’s Belfast facility in the United Kingdom, where end-of-life magnets from wind turbines and medical imaging equipment were processed. This material will be used in Brazilian magnet manufacturing to support local production capacity.

Recycling Process Designed to Reduce Environmental Impact

The recycling process developed by Ionic Rare Earths involves mechanical and chemical techniques to recover high-purity rare earth oxides. Discarded magnets undergo steps including crushing, grinding, and solvent extraction, which enables the separation of individual rare earth elements.

The company has stated that this method avoids common waste challenges associated with mining and refining, such as radioactive by-products. In addition, it contributes to a lower carbon footprint compared to traditional extraction and processing methods.

The shipment to Brazil supports the South American nation’s domestic ambitions to build a sustainable rare earth value chain. The program also aligns with broader international efforts to enhance environmentally responsible sourcing of critical minerals.

Brazilian and UK Collaboration Supports Clean Energy Goals

Ionic Rare Earths highlighted that the joint venture in Brazil, known as Viridion, is supported by national efforts to increase rare earth refining capacity. Through this collaboration, Brazil aims to become less reliant on imported materials and more aligned with regional manufacturing goals.

Parallel to its South American initiatives, Ionic Rare Earths is scaling operations in the United Kingdom. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with UK-based EMR, a sustainable materials firm, to strengthen supply and feedstock access for its Belfast facility. EMR’s logistics footprint across Europe and North America is expected to provide consistent material sourcing for future recycling.

Grant Application Progresses in the United Kingdom

As part of its broader roadmap to establish a rare earth ecosystem, Ionic Rare Earths is advancing a grant application with UK authorities. The funding would support commercialization of the recycling technology, enabling broader deployment across industrial applications and critical infrastructure.

The company reported that several milestones have already been achieved in its UK program, including the demonstration of successful recovery and refining from end-of-life magnet materials. Additional updates are expected as the grant process moves toward completion.

The integration of recycled materials into regional supply chains supports various policy-driven initiatives aimed at securing essential mineral inputs for the energy transition. By advancing these recycling capabilities, Ionic Rare Earths continues to play a role in building cleaner, circular, and resilient supply frameworks.
