Highlights

  • ABx Group (ASX:ABX) delivers bulk rare earth sample to ANSTO from Deep Leads Project in Tasmania

  • Sample testing reveals magnet rare earth potential and high recovery capabilities

  • Development of a mixed rare earth carbonate sample underway for future processing

asx 200 listed ABx Group (ASX:ABX) has taken a significant step forward in its rare earth strategy with the delivery of a bulk sample from its Deep Leads Project in northern Tasmania to the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO).

This material, sourced from three trial pits within the project, was meticulously processed to remove fragments of basement rock. The remaining rare earth-bearing ionic adsorption clay has undergone in-house testing to evaluate its extraction profile and magnet rare earth content.

Laboratory Results Highlight Potential

Testing revealed encouraging results for elements such as dysprosium and terbium, which are critical components in the global magnet supply chain. These materials are integral to advanced technologies across multiple sectors including renewable energy and electronics.

The Deep Leads sample showed favourable characteristics during leach testing. Notably, the performance of magnet-related rare earth elements demonstrated consistency in extraction levels. Cerium, commonly exhibiting lower extraction in such clays, performed as expected.

Strategic Collaboration with ANSTO

The collaboration with ANSTO supports the development of a high-purity mixed rare earth carbonate (MREC) product. This processed sample is intended to represent the project’s downstream potential and aligns with ABx Group’s broader vision of creating value from ionic clay-hosted deposits.

Once completed, the MREC will serve as a reference product for commercial engagements and further processing arrangements. This initiative is expected to culminate in delivery within the final quarter of the coming year, strengthening the company’s technical and commercial standing in the sector.

Deep Leads Project Anchored by Growing Discoveries

The Deep Leads Project, which includes the Rubble Mound and Wind Break discoveries, continues to reveal mineralisation potential across its clay horizon. These zones host a substantial rare earth presence, contributing to a broader understanding of the project’s scale.

The established resource areas contain notable concentrations of magnet rare earths. These zones are instrumental in defining the project's outlook, offering a strong foundation for future exploration and strategic partnerships.

Strategic Partnerships Strengthen Market Position

ABx Group has previously signed a memorandum of understanding with Ucore Rare Metals (TSX-V:UCU) for potential supply agreements. This adds a commercial dimension to the technical work, supporting a vertically integrated strategy for rare earth development and export opportunities.

The partnership aligns with the group’s long-term objectives of advancing rare earth initiatives in stable jurisdictions, focusing on sustainable extraction and low-impact processing approaches to contribute to a cleaner industrial future.

Focus on Innovation and Domestic Capability

ABx Group’s investment in in-house leaching and processing capabilities reflects a strategic intent to remain agile and self-reliant. These capabilities allow the company to accelerate understanding of its resources and produce advanced rare earth outputs efficiently.

By combining internal capabilities with external collaborations, the company enhances its ability to scale innovation while maintaining operational efficiency. This positions ABx as a unique player among ionic clay-focused rare earth developers within the domestic and regional landscape.
