Why Are Institutional Investors Increasing Their Holdings in American States Water?

Institutional Investors Expand Holdings

American States Water has seen a surge in institutional interest, with several financial firms increasing their positions in the utilities provider. Choreo LLC reported a 21.8% boost in its holdings during the fourth quarter, adding 822 shares and bringing its total to 4,597 shares. The firm’s latest SEC filing valued its stake at $359,000.

Other firms have also adjusted their positions in recent months. Pathway Financial Advisers LLC notably increased its stake, acquiring an additional 305,669 shares, bringing its total holdings to 309,363 shares. This expansion highlighted the firm’s growing interest in the company within the utilities sector.

Major Financial Firms Show Strong Interest

Principal Financial Group Inc. more than doubled its position in American States Water, increasing its stake by 107.1% in the third quarter. The firm now holds 381,981 shares, valued at approximately $31.8 million. Similarly, Assenagon Asset Management S.A. expanded its position by 114%, adding 144,510 shares and reaching a total of 271,325 shares.

Barclays PLC also significantly increased its position, reporting a 172.8% rise in its stake. The firm now owns 78,706 shares, valued at $6.55 million, following an acquisition of 49,851 shares. BNP Paribas Asset Management Holding S.A. followed suit, increasing its stake by 29.6% to 158,292 shares, worth $13.18 million.

Utilities Sector Remains a Focal Point

The utilities sector has consistently attracted institutional investors due to its stability and essential services. American States Water, known for providing regulated water and electric services, continues to be a key asset in institutional portfolios. Hedge funds and investment firms now own approximately 75.24% of the company's shares, reinforcing its strong presence in the sector.

As firms continue to adjust their positions, American States Water remains a notable entity in the utilities space, drawing interest from major financial institutions.
