VEON Ltd. (Nasdaq: VEON, Euronext Amsterdam: VEON), a leading global digital operator, has officially launched KINOM, a digital entertainment platform aimed at enhancing the viewing experience for users in Uzbekistan. With a diverse content offering that includes more than 130 channels of linear TV as well as a robust selection of on-demand films and TV series, KINOM is set to become a vital resource for mobile users across the country.
Developed locally, KINOM represents the latest initiative in VEON's DO1440 strategy, which aims to deliver digital experiences that engage customers throughout all 1,440 minutes of the day. The platform provides Full HD streaming, compatible with Apple and Android smartphones, Smart TVs, and computers, ensuring a seamless viewing experience. A key highlight of KINOM is its focus on local language content, featuring a wide array of films and programs in Uzbek. This commitment not only enhances relevance for consumers but also supports local content creators, fostering a richer entertainment landscape in Uzbekistan.
Kaan Terzioglu, CEO of VEON Group, expressed pride in contributing to the digital transformation of Uzbekistan. He highlighted that the company’s initiatives extend beyond just entertainment, emphasizing its efforts to expand 4G connectivity through Beeline, its telecommunications arm. By offering a comprehensive digital service portfolio that includes entertainment, fintech, and adtech, VEON aims to create accessible, high-quality national language entertainment that also bolsters the growth of local creative industries.
KINOM joins a portfolio of successful digital entertainment platforms operated by VEON, which includes Tamasha in Pakistan and Toffee in Bangladesh. Tamasha boasts 18 million monthly active users (MAUs), while Toffee has attracted 12.3 million MAUs. These platforms illustrate VEON's commitment to providing engaging digital experiences tailored to regional audiences. As of June 2024, VEON reported a total of 110 million monthly active users across its digital services, underscoring the company's significant reach in the digital market.
In the first half of 2024, direct revenues from digital services accounted for more than 10% of VEON Group’s total revenues, signaling a growing dependence on digital offerings as a critical revenue stream. The launch of KINOM is expected to contribute positively to these figures by tapping into the burgeoning demand for digital content in Uzbekistan.
As KINOM sets out to make its mark, it stands as a testament to VEON's ongoing commitment to innovation and digital growth in emerging markets. The platform not only aims to entertain but also seeks to connect audiences with culturally relevant content, thereby enriching the viewing experience for Uzbek consumers.
