Highlights

  • New Milestone: SK hynix launches the PS1012 U.21 SSD with a 61TB capacity, leveraging cutting-edge QLC technology for AI data centers.
  • Record-Breaking Speeds: Gen5 PCIe doubles bandwidth, delivering sequential read speeds of 13GB/s, twice that of previous-generation SSDs.
  • Future Ambitions: Plans to introduce 122TB SSDs by late 2025 and 244TB SSDs powered by industry-leading 321-layer 4D NAND technology.

SK hynix Inc. announced the successful development of its latest high-capacity SSD product, 'PS1012 U.21,' tailored for the rapidly growing AI data center market. The 61TB SSD, utilizing advanced QLC technology, is designed to meet the soaring demand for high-performance enterprise SSDs (eSSDs) in the AI-driven era.

Transforming Storage for AI Data Centers

The adoption of Quad-Level Cell (QLC) technology has set a new industry benchmark for enabling ultra-high-capacity storage, and SK hynix has remained at the forefront of this innovation. Through Solidigm, its subsidiary credited with pioneering QLC-based eSSDs, SK hynix has strengthened its leadership in the SSD market.

The newly unveiled PS1012 U.21 is equipped with the latest 5th Generation PCIe (Gen5), which delivers a 32GT/s data transfer speed—double the bandwidth of its Gen4 predecessors. With a sequential read performance of 13GB/s, the product significantly enhances the efficiency of AI workloads, catering to the needs of global AI customers.

Enhanced Compatibility and Future Growth

The PS1012 U.21 also supports OCP 2.0, improving compatibility across various server devices and further reinforcing its position as a versatile solution for global data centers. SK hynix plans to supply samples of the SSD to leading server manufacturers before the end of the year for evaluation.

Looking ahead, the company intends to expand its product lineup with 122TB SSDs by late 2025 and push the boundaries of storage technology by developing 244TB SSDs. These advancements will be powered by the world's highest-density 321-layer 4D NAND, introduced in November 2024, effectively addressing the capacity limitations of current eSSD solutions.

Leadership in High-Capacity SSD Innovation

SK hynix’s latest product development exemplifies its strategic focus on the AI-driven data center market. By offering a balanced SSD portfolio in collaboration with Solidigm, the company aims to drive synergies and solidify its leadership in ultra-high-capacity storage.
