This collaboration marks a significant milestone as Pluri announces a tech transfer and manufacturing agreement with Kadimastem, a clinical-stage biotechnology company renowned for its pioneering work in ALS and diabetes treatments.
At the heart of this agreement lies Pluri's cutting-edge initiative, PluriCDMO™, launched earlier this year. This platform utilizes Pluri’s expansive 47,000 square foot good manufacturing practice (GMP) cell production facility. PluriCDMO™ is designed to cater specifically to the manufacturing needs of life science enterprises, enabling the production of high-quality cell-based products for clinical applications.
Under the terms of the agreement, PluriCDMO™ will undertake the manufacturing of two pivotal cell therapy products for Kadimastem. The first, AstroRx®, involves the production of clinical-grade human astrocytes—cells crucial for supporting the nervous system. These astrocytes are intended for an upcoming U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Phase 2a study aimed at treating ALS, a debilitating neurodegenerative disease.
The second product, IsletRx, focuses on clinical-grade pancreatic islet cells. These specialized cells are responsible for producing and secreting insulin and glucagon in response to blood glucose levels. IsletRx holds promise for treating diabetes, addressing a critical need in managing this widespread metabolic disorder.
Kadimastem’s decision to partner with PluriCDMO™ underscores Pluri’s unmatched expertise and track record in developing and manufacturing cell-based therapies under stringent GMP conditions.
