IBM (NYSE:IBM) has officially unveiled its new flagship office at One Madison Avenue, a momentous occasion marking a significant milestone for the global technology giant. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was a high-profile event featuring speeches from IBM Chief Executive Officer Arvind Krishna, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, Partnership for New York City President and CEO Kathryn Wylde, and other distinguished guests. The event celebrated IBM's deepening commitment to New York and its role in the city's burgeoning technology sector.
Arvind Krishna highlighted the significance of the new office, stating, "One Madison Avenue demonstrates a new chapter in the partnership between IBM and the city and state of New York. It joins a long tradition of IBM contributions to New York's thriving technology industry, including our deep partnerships with academic and research institutions across the state. This move will allow us to bring our employees, clients, and partners together to work on exciting technologies, from enterprise AI to hybrid cloud to quantum."
Governor Kathy Hochul praised the opening as a positive indicator of New York's economic recovery post-pandemic. "IBM's new flagship office in New York is the latest sign that our post-pandemic economy is roaring back to life," she said. Hochul emphasized IBM's historic role in technology and job creation, noting that the company's presence continues to drive economic growth and attract global talent to New York.
Senator Chuck Schumer also lauded the development, commenting, "With IBM's new office at One Madison, the future is bright for IBM, for New York City, and for our entire state. New York City Mayor Eric Adams echoed the sentiment, noting the positive impact of IBM's investment on the city's economy. "With yet another global-leading company doubling down on its commitment to New York City, we are continuing to build the foundation for a more prosperous, equitable, and affordable future for New Yorkers across the five boroughs," Adams said.
Kathryn Wylde of the Partnership for New York City emphasized IBM's pivotal role in the city's tech sector. "IBM as a company has been the anchor of New York City's fastest-growing industry – the tech sector – and an important source of support for all our member companies," she remarked.
The new 270,000 square-foot IBM office occupies five floors of One Madison Avenue, a building owned and managed by SL Green Realty Corp. Designed by global architecture and design firm Gensler, the state-of-the-art workspace features a street-level lobby with floor-to-ceiling windows and a striking 40-foot-long Quantum Wave light sculpture. The space includes a second-floor reception area with the IBM "Blue Bar" and a 22,000 square-foot Innovation Studio showcasing IBM's latest technologies through immersive experiences. This new office not only represents IBM’s commitment to innovation but also its deep-rooted connection to New York City's vibrant tech community.
