Highlights

  • Cisco has finalized its acquisition of SnapAttack, a cyber threat hunting and detection company.
  • SnapAttack was originally incubated by Booz Allen Hamilton’s DarkLabs team in 2020.
  • Booz Allen remains an investor in SnapAttack, which it helped launch and scale after its spinout in 2021.

Booz Allen Hamilton (NYSE:BAH) today confirmed that Cisco has successfully completed its acquisition of SnapAttack, a leading cyber threat hunting and detection firm. SnapAttack, which was spun out of Booz Allen in 2021, was created with the mission to help organizations stay ahead of emerging threats and address critical gaps in cybersecurity. Following the spinout, Booz Allen retained its role as an investor in SnapAttack, which is now under Cisco's umbrella.

SnapAttack was initially incubated and launched publicly by Booz Allen’s elite DarkLabs team in 2020. DarkLabs, known for its advanced cyber operations and defense strategies, helped bring SnapAttack to life by leveraging Booz Allen’s innovative intellectual property, cutting-edge technology, and strategic commercial partnerships. The foundation provided by Booz Allen enabled SnapAttack to achieve rapid growth, positioning it as a key player in the cybersecurity industry.

Booz Allen's investment in SnapAttack played a pivotal role in accelerating the company’s delivery of advanced and agile cyber capabilities, particularly in the realm of national security. The partnership helped ensure that SnapAttack’s platform could offer sophisticated tools for threat intelligence, attack emulation, and detection analytics, empowering organizations to identify vulnerabilities and potential risks before they could be exploited.

As part of the spinout, SnapAttack retained a dedicated technical team and became an independent entity with its own set of products aimed at fostering collaboration within the cybersecurity community. These tools allowed professionals to come together and address common challenges related to detecting and mitigating cyber threats.

With Cisco’s acquisition of SnapAttack, the cybersecurity landscape is poised to benefit from even more robust and scalable solutions. The integration will likely strengthen Cisco’s existing security offerings, while furthering the mission to provide organizations with the tools and knowledge needed to protect their networks and data from sophisticated cyber threats.
