CSX Corporation (NASDAQ:CSX) has announced that it has successfully negotiated new tentative five-year collective bargaining agreements with seven additional labor unions. These agreements, covering diverse employee groups, mark a significant advancement in labor relations for the company.

The agreements involve:

  • The Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (BMWED): Covering maintenance of way employees.
  • The International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers (IAM): Representing machinists and roadway mechanics.
  • The International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers – Transportation Division (SMART-TD): Representing yardmasters.
  • The Brotherhood of Railway Carmen (BRC): Covering carmen at the Fruit Growers Express Company subsidiary of CSX.
  • The Transportation Communications Union (TCU): Covering clerical staff at Fruit Growers Express.
  • The American Railway and Airway Supervisors’ Association (ARASA): Representing mechanical department supervisors.
  • The B&O Joint Council (BOJC): Covering mechanical department foremen and supervisors.

CSX President and CEO Joe Hinrichs expressed his satisfaction, stating, “We are incredibly pleased to have reached these tentative agreements ahead of the re-negotiation process, reflecting our strong commitment to collaboration with our union partners. These agreements are a testament to the hard work and dedication of all parties involved, ensuring a bright future for our workforce and the sustained success of CSX operations. Together, as ONE CSX, we are building a path forward that benefits our employees, our customers, and the communities we serve.”

The tentative agreements are subject to ratification by the unions’ memberships and were reached more than four months before the expiration of the current collective agreements under the federal Railway Labor Act. With these new agreements, CSX has now finalized 12 tentative agreements, covering over 50% of its unionized workforce. The agreements offer improved wages, healthcare, and paid time off benefits across the board.

CSX remains dedicated to continuing negotiations with other unions to finalize similar agreements, aiming to enhance the work environment for all employees.
