Cerevel’s CVL-231 is a treatment for schizophrenia. It targets the activation of the M4 receptor in the brain to reduce dopaminergic activity without direct dopamine receptor antagonist activity.

According to the company, CVL-231 is the only selective M4 receptor PAM that is currently being developed.

Cerevel said that a single dose of CVL-231 daily showed significant antipsychotic activity.  Patients who took a single dose of 30 mg of the medication daily showed a mean reduction of 12.7 points in the symptom severity measurement at six weeks, compared with the placebo group.
