Expansion of Global Commercialization Rights
Scilex Holding Company has secured worldwide commercialization rights for Gloperba®, extending its reach beyond the United States. This agreement amendment provides Scilex with the ability to market Gloperba® globally, responding to the growing need for innovative gout treatments and the unique advantages offered by Gloperba®'s liquid form.
Innovative Liquid Formulation
Gloperba® stands as the first and only FDA-approved liquid oral colchicine formulation designed for the prevention of painful gout flares in adults. The liquid format offers precise dosing, a crucial benefit for gout patients who also manage comorbid conditions. Over 70% of gout patients require dose adjustments due to other health concerns, and the 0.6mg per 5ml dosage of Gloperba® facilitates flexibility in these cases.
The formulation also allows for dose reduction in patients with severe renal impairment, with a recommended dosage of 0.3mg/day, broadening the medication's applicability. Additionally, the liquid form offers an alternative for those who struggle with pill swallowing, improving accessibility for a wider patient population.
Rising Global Gout Incidence
The global prevalence of gout has seen a significant increase in recent decades, with the patient population growing from 22 million to 53 million. This rise reflects a broader trend in the incidence of the condition, with a worldwide rate of 0.1-0.3% of the population affected. The expanding patient base underscores the demand for effective treatments like Gloperba® that cater to the specific needs of gout sufferers, such as precision dosing.
