Sysco Corporation (NYSE:SYY), the world’s largest food distributor, has announced a significant expansion of its electric truck fleet with the addition of eight heavy-duty electric tractors at its Victoria distribution center. This milestone reflects Sysco's ongoing commitment to sustainability and its broader climate goals.
The new electric tractors will enhance Sysco’s operations in Victoria, a key hub serving over 1,500 customers, including restaurants, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions. This addition is part of Sysco's global strategy to incorporate environmentally friendly technologies into its logistics network. With this latest expansion, Sysco now boasts over 130 heavy-duty electric tractors operating across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Sweden.
Neil Russell, Sysco’s Chief Administrative Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, stating, “We are excited to scale our electric truck fleet into Canada and continue our journey to meet our climate goal of reducing emissions across the enterprise. One component of our climate goal is electrifying a portion of our fleet, and our partnership with the Government of Canada, the Government of British Columbia, and BC Hydro is key to helping us achieve this.” He added, “Electric tractors produce zero tailpipe emissions, which is good for the environment and important for our customers who want to do business with a responsible foodservice distributor.”
To celebrate this achievement, Sysco Canada hosted an event at their Victoria distribution center during National Trucking Week. The event was attended by leadership, colleagues, government officials, and vendor partners, highlighting Sysco’s dedication to sustainability and innovation in the food distribution sector.
