Stocks of Applied Materials, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMAT) and Urban One, Inc. (NASDAQ: UONEK, UONE) seem to have caught the investors’ attention recently.

Applied Material’s stock is up almost 50 percent year to date, while it soared 139 percent in the last one year. The stock has a 52-week trading range of US$53.32 to US$146.

Meanwhile, Urban One stock rose 89 percent year to date. In the last one year, the share price has grown 524 percent. Urban One has a 52-week trading range of US$1.25 and US$54.16.

Applied Materials, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMAT)

Applied Materials provides materials engineering solutions to produce chips and advanced displays.

On Thursday, Applied said its net sales during the second quarter ended May 2 came in at US$5.58 billion, up 41 percent from US$3.96 billion in the year-ago quarter.

The California-based company attributed the growth to its strong semiconductor business.

Applied posted a 76 percent year-over-year growth in its second-quarter net income to US$1.33 billion. Diluted EPS was US$1.43, up from 82 cents.

Meanwhile, adjusted net income soared to US$1.51 billion, or US$1.63 per share, from US$817 million, or 89 cents per share.

Applied expects to report US$5.92 billion in third-quarter net sales, while adjusted EPS is projected between US$1.70 and US$1.82.

Urban One, Inc. (NASDAQ: UONEK, UONE)

Urban One is a media company targeting African-American and urban consumers. The company operates broadcast stations and cable television network and holds a minority ownership interest in MGM National Harbor Casino in Maryland.

Urban One stock gained 59 percent on Thursday after Virginia’s Resort Casino Evaluation Panel recommended the company’s proposed ONE Casino + Resort project. However, the stock fell around 15 percent on Friday.

The project proposes setting up a 100,000 square feet casino gaming space, luxury hotel, theaters, eateries and bars, and radio and television production studios at Walmsley Boulevard in South Richmond.

Recently, a Virginia law permitted casino gaming in five cities, including Richmond, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Danville, and Bristol, subject to a public referendum.

The project is contingent on a referendum on casino gaming in Richmond this November.
