DIY sales in the UK soar high during pandemic times
As per, The Office for National Statistics (ONS) retail sales volumes rose by 0.8% between July and August. Spending on household goods was particularly strong in August, with retailers reporting a 9.9% jump in sales of homeware products compared with the pre-pandemic levels seen in February. Retail sales continued to grow, further surpassing their pre-pandemic level. Online sales remained high of household goods thrived as the demand for home improvement continued
Fresh National COVID rules applied from today on pubs, cafes, and hairdressers
Hospitality venues in England are from today, legally required to enforce the rule of 6 or face a fine of up to £4,000.
Allocated businesses and organizations, including hospitality, close contact services, and leisure venues, will also be legally required to log details of customers, visitors, and staff for NHS Test and Trace and from Thursday 24 September they will be required to display official NHS QR code posters under law ahead of the NHS COVID-19 app being rolled out nationally next week. The regulations will be enforced by Local Authorities, who will have the power to issue fines of up to £1,000 for venues that are failing to comply, or the police as a last resort. Fines will rise to up to £4,000 for repeat offenders.
UK restaurant visits fall after government subsidy ends
The number of British people visiting restaurants, cafes, and pubs fell for the first time since early July over the past couple of weeks, following the end of a government subsidy for half-price restaurant meals.
The Office for National Statistics said 30% of British adults had been out to eat or drink between Sept. 9 and Sept. 13, down from 38% two weeks earlier, when the government’s ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ program was still running
