Popular videoconferencing app Zoom has seen its revenues skyrocket as second-quarter profits more than doubled due to the coronavirus crisis. Revenues leaped 355% to $663.5m (£496.3m) for the three months ending 31 July, beating analysts' expectations of $500.5m. Profits soared to $186m, while customer growth rose 458%, compared with the same period in 2019. Video conferencing apps remain crucial due to the increase in remote working.
Amazon has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval to operate its fleet of Prime Air drones in the US. The company can now use unmanned aircraft systems to deliver goods ‘beyond the visual line of sight of the operator’ under a trial basis. Amazon began testing its delivery drones in 2013 but has stumbled getting the service off the ground due to hardware and safety issues.
AstraZeneca Plc has begun a large-scale human trial of its coronavirus vaccine in the U.S., the company said in a statement, with plans to enroll as many as 30,000 adults to test the shot. The AstraZeneca shot, invented by researchers at the University of Oxford, is one of the farthest along of numerous Covid-19 vaccines in development.
