Highlights
- AI Innovation Milestone: Winking Studios and Acer enter Phase Three of their AI project to refine GenMotion.AI and enhance 3D animation technology.
- Strategic Investment: Acer to invest an additional US$0.5m, bringing total project funding to US$1.5m.
- IP Ownership & Future Growth: Any new intellectual property from the collaboration will be jointly owned on a 50:50 basis.
Winking Studios Limited (LSE:WKS), a leading provider of AAA art outsourcing and game development services, has announced the next phase of its AI development project with Acer Incorporated. The collaboration aims to build on the success of GenMotion.AI, an advanced 3D animation generation tool powered by generative AI, to push the boundaries of animation technology.
Following the announcement on 5 December 2024, Winking’s subsidiaries — Winking Entertainment Corporation, Shanghai Winking Entertainment Ltd, and Nanjing Winking Entertainment Ltd (collectively, the "Winking Entities") — have entered into a Phase Three AI Agreement with Acer Inc.. This new phase will run from 1 January to 31 August 2025 and focus on refining the AI Tool to enhance its capabilities and expand its commercial potential.
Accelerating 3D Animation with AI
The Phase Three AI Agreement builds on the foundational technology developed in previous phases, aiming to:
- Enhance AI Capabilities: Integrate more resources and R&D to improve animation accuracy and realism.
- Boost Efficiency: Speed up production cycles and optimize animator workflows.
- Support Global Clients: After a successful test project with a major international client in January 2025, the AI Tool is ready for broader deployment.
GenMotion.AI generates 3D animations from text inputs, using training data curated from the gaming industry. This innovation empowers game artists and creators with tools that streamline production while elevating visual quality.
Strengthening Collaboration with Acer
With the third phase underway, Acer’s total investment in the project will reach approximately US$1.5m, with an additional US$0.5m allocated for further development and testing. Winking Studios will provide the required manpower, software, and hardware, while both companies will have free access to the AI Tool’s outcomes for their business purposes.
In the event of new inventions, any intellectual property (IP) rights will be jointly held on a 50:50 ownership basis. This arrangement underscores the strategic value of the collaboration and the potential for groundbreaking AI innovations to reshape the game development landscape.
