DG Innovate plc (LSE:DGI), a leader in sustainable mobility and energy storage R&D, has announced significant progress in its energy storage activities, focusing on the development of new hard carbon anode materials for advanced battery applications. Following the recent commissioning of cutting-edge equipment, including a jet mill and furnace, DGI’s material science team has successfully engineered a range of enhanced hard carbon anode materials sourced from various sustainable feedstocks.
One of these feedstocks—a globally abundant biowaste material—has shown exceptional promise. The sustainable material exhibits properties that could potentially improve energy storage performance, marking a key step in DGI’s mission to drive sustainable solutions in battery technology. To further validate this innovation, DG Innovate launched a demonstrator project in collaboration with Swansea University in October 2024. This project will focus on developing full-cell batteries that incorporate DGI’s new anode material, with the goal of showcasing its capabilities and readiness for market applications.
Global Funding Discussions and Scale-Up Potential
DG Innovate has entered into discussions with several international investment bodies to secure funding that could accelerate the scale-up and commercialization of its sustainable anode technology. The company’s interest in expanding its sustainable battery research reflects its commitment to meeting the rising demand for clean energy storage solutions. As these discussions progress, DG Innovate aims to provide updates on potential project funding that could bolster the development of its pioneering energy storage technology.
Patent Milestone for Novel Manufacturing Process
In August 2024, DG Innovate published an international patent (WO2024170916A1) titled “Method of Manufacturing a Carbon Material for Use as a Battery Electrode.” The patent safeguards a proprietary process for manufacturing one of the novel feedstocks developed by DGI’s research team. This patented process represents a significant technological advancement in the production of sustainable battery components, ensuring that DG Innovate retains competitive intellectual property rights as it advances its battery technology.
