Batelco, a key subsidiary of the Beyon Group, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Qareeb Data Centers W.L.L., marking a significant stride toward the development of Bahrain’s digital infrastructure. The agreement was formalized at the Gateway Gulf Investment Forum 2024, with Batelco CEO Maitham Abdulla and Qareeb Data Centers Chief Strategy Officer Annemarie Van Zadelhoff signing the MoU in the presence of representatives from both companies.
Pioneering the White Space Data Centre
The collaboration centers around the creation of the first White Space Data Centre in Bahrain, which will be part of Beyon’s expansive Data Oasis project. This major initiative follows Beyon’s substantial investment in global connectivity and digital infrastructure announced last year and will serve as the Kingdom’s largest technology hub. The White Space Data Centre will provide cutting-edge data solutions, enhancing Bahrain’s position as a digital leader in the region.
Expanding Digital Services and Infrastructure
As part of the agreement, Batelco and Qareeb Data Centers will jointly explore a series of developmental activities. These include establishing and delivering colocation services to strengthen Bahrain’s data infrastructure and examining the feasibility of data center initiatives across the region. Additionally, both companies will investigate the potential to offer managed digital services to select clients, complementing their existing service offerings.
The strategic partnership is expected to unlock new opportunities in digital service delivery and support Bahrain’s growing demand for high-quality data solutions. The initiative aligns with the Kingdom’s vision of advancing its technological capabilities and becoming a leading digital hub in the Gulf.
