HydrogenOne Capital Growth plc (LSE:HGEN), the first London-listed fund focused on investing in clean hydrogen technologies, has announced a significant development involving its portfolio company, Sunfire GmbH. Sunfire has secured a 50-megawatt (MW) electrolyser contract with Ren-Gas, a Finnish hydrogen project developer, for their plant in Tampere, Finland.
The contract includes the delivery of five 10-MW pressurised alkaline electrolysis modules, which are at the forefront of hydrogen production technology. Sunfire will oversee the entire process, including the design, production, testing, delivery, installation supervision, and performance testing of the electrolyser equipment, ensuring that the project benefits from the company’s advanced technology and expertise at each stage.
The Tampere project is set to produce synthetic e-methane and green hydrogen. The hydrogen will be used in Finland’s heavy road transportation sector, while the e-methane will support the country's district heating system. The project is currently in its feasibility phase and has already received an environmental permit, marking an important step towards its full-scale implementation.
As of 30 September 2024, HydrogenOne's investment in Sunfire represented 25% of the company’s Net Asset Value (NAV), underscoring the importance of this partnership in the fund's clean energy portfolio.
This contract further strengthens HydrogenOne's commitment to supporting innovative, environmentally beneficial projects within the clean hydrogen sector, with Sunfire’s cutting-edge electrolysis technology playing a pivotal role in advancing Finland’s sustainable energy future.
