  • Engineering experts from Enprotec identified problems related to the processing of spodumene, citing inconsistent grades and recovery rates due to incorrect chemical dosing and prolonged cleaning processes.

  • The company plans to implement a low-cost solution involving custom inserts to enhance performance, while also evaluating the installation of a new flotation plant as an alternative strategy.

Premier African Minerals Ltd (LSE:PREM) has released an update regarding its Zulu lithium and tantalum plant located in Zimbabwe, highlighting initiatives aimed at addressing current production challenges and enhancing operational efficiency. The company's assessment followed consultations with engineering experts from the firm Enprotec, who pinpointed issues related to the processing of spodumene, a vital lithium mineral.

According to the findings, the plant has been experiencing inconsistent grades and recovery rates, which were attributed to incorrect chemical dosing and excessive cleaning times. To mitigate these issues, Premier African has outlined a plan to install custom inserts in the cleaning stages, designed to optimize performance. The projected cost for these modifications is expected to be minimal, with fabrication estimated to take approximately six weeks.

In addition to the immediate modifications, Premier is exploring an alternative strategy involving the installation of a completely new flotation plant, which would utilize proven technology. While this option remains viable, the focus will initially be on implementing the cost-effective solution to enhance current operations.

Furthermore, the company is actively engaging with additional suppliers to investigate alternative chemical treatments that may improve processing outcomes. As part of its commitment to ensuring the project's viability, Premier continues to conduct due diligence on various options for the future of the Zulu project.

Premier African emphasized that multiple pathways for the Zulu project are being thoroughly evaluated, with due diligence ongoing from potentially interested parties. This proactive approach underscores the company's dedication to enhancing operational performance and maximizing the potential of its lithium and tantalum resources in Zimbabwe.
