Great Southern Copper PLC (LSE:GSCU) has made significant progress in its exploration efforts at the Viuda prospect, located within the Especularita project in Chile. Recent drilling, mapping, and sampling activities have uncovered indications of a previously untested porphyry copper/gold system.
According to the company’s announcement, the findings suggest the presence of high-grade mineralization linked to stockwork and vein breccia formations. Notably, rock samples collected from artisanal workings have yielded impressive assay results, with select samples exhibiting elevated concentrations of copper, gold, and silver. Out of 55 samples taken, ten showed assay grades exceeding 1.0% copper, highlighting the prospect's potential for valuable mineral resources.
Geological mapping of the area indicates a substantial porphyry copper-type geological framework, along with alteration characteristics akin to other prominent copper/gold deposits, such as Bajo de Alumbrera. This assessment further underscores the viability of the Viuda prospect as a significant mineral resource opportunity.
Great Southern Copper acquired the Viuda prospect earlier this year as part of the Artemisa option agreement, which is integral to the broader Especularita project. Sam Garrett, the chief executive of Great Southern Copper, expressed enthusiasm regarding the discovery of additional porphyry-style alteration and mineralization at Viuda. He emphasized the growing potential of the Especularita project to host multiple porphyry copper centers.
As the company prepares for drilling activities at the Mostaza site, the advancement at Viuda adds to a robust pipeline of grassroots exploration prospects that are advancing to drill-ready status. This strategic focus on exploration and development aims to enhance the company's portfolio and support its long-term growth objectives in the mining sector.
