Firering Strategic Minerals plc (LSE:FRG) is an emerging producer of quicklime and an explorer of critical minerals. The company operates through Limeco Resources Limited in Zambia, where it is focused on scaling production capacity, optimising operations, and building a significant sales pipeline.
Operational Update
Firering reported that Kiln 1, which first achieved production in Q1 2025, was taken offline on 19 July 2025 for maintenance and upgrades. Enhancements included the installation of a new induced draft (ID) fan motor and a variable speed drive (VSD). Following re-firing in early August, Kiln 1 achieved full operational temperature and stabilised at 45–50 tonnes per day.
Work on Kiln 2 is progressing with final equipment shipments arriving from India. Hot commissioning is expected in the coming months. Lessons learned from Kiln 1 are being applied to Kiln 2 to ensure smoother ramp-ups. The same enhancements will later be rolled out across Kilns 3 and 4, further improving efficiency.
Commercial Progress
The demand pipeline for Limeco’s products is encouraging, with buying interest spanning all product categories. Recently, Limeco completed the first sale of lower-grade quicklime, creating a new revenue stream from material previously considered unsaleable.
To increase its commercial reach, Limeco has appointed an in-house salesperson with significant quicklime experience in Zambia. The company is also evaluating additional product lines for both local and regional markets.
Resource and Mining Licence
Feedstock for Kiln 1 has been sourced from a stockpile exceeding 150,000 tonnes. To secure long-term supply, Firering has obtained a Mining Licence covering its Tier 1 limestone deposit. The resource estimate stands at 145.2 Mt at 95.7% CaCO₃, comprising 11.8 Mt Measured, 55.4 Mt Indicated, and 78.0 Mt Inferred. The licence is valid for an initial 10 years and renewable, providing reserves sufficient for over 50 years of quicklime production. Mining operations are planned to begin in Q4 2026, once the current stockpile is close to depletion.
Outlook
Firering is targeting production of 600–800 tonnes per day across Limeco’s eight-kiln plant. With upgrades completed at Kiln 1, refurbishment of Kiln 2 in progress, and significant demand across all product categories, Limeco is positioned to expand production capacity and meet growing regional demand.
