Scancell Holdings PLC (LSE:SCLP), a biotech company developing immunotherapies for cancer, has announced the appointment of Dr Phil L'Huillier as its new chief executive officer. Dr L'Huillier, who will officially join the company on November 18, brings 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He will take over from Professor Lindy Durrant, who will focus solely on her role as chief scientific officer (CSO) following the transition.
Dr L'Huillier most recently served as the CEO of CatalYm, a German cancer immunotherapy company, where he played a significant role in advancing its treatment programmes and securing over $200 million in funding. His previous experience includes senior positions at Merck Sharp & Dohme, overseeing business development across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and at Cancer Research Technology, a subsidiary of Cancer Research UK, where he was instrumental in fostering partnerships and development initiatives.
Scancell’s chairman, Dr Jean-Michel Cosséry, welcomed the appointment, describing Dr L'Huillier as a "results-driven leader" with a strong background in developing and commercialising cancer therapeutics. Dr Cosséry added that Scancell looks forward to benefiting from Dr L'Huillier’s deep expertise in the biopharmaceutical sector as the company approaches key milestones in its immunotherapy programs.
Professor Durrant, who has led the company as CEO for the past three years, reflected on her tenure, noting that her main focus had been to move Scancell’s discoveries into clinical trials. Under her leadership, the company has made significant progress, including ongoing clinical trials for SCIB1/iSCIB1+, a melanoma treatment, and Modi-1, a therapy targeting multiple solid tumours.
Additionally, Scancell’s anti-glycan antibody platform has shown promising potential, positioning the company to explore revenue-generating partnerships and accelerate its progress into clinical studies. Professor Durrant expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to work with a talented team and looks forward to continuing her role as CSO, supporting the company’s continued growth and development of its vaccine and antibody platforms.
Scancell is now poised to advance its immunotherapy portfolio under the new leadership of Dr L'Huillier, while continuing to build on the scientific foundation established by Professor Durrant.
