hVIVO PLC Expands Laboratory Services with hLAB Launch
hVIVO PLC {LSE:HVO} recognized for its expertise in infectious disease and respiratory product testing, has officially launched the hLAB suite of standalone services. This development enhances the company's laboratory offerings in virology and immunology, providing critical support for both preclinical and clinical drug development. The launch signifies a key milestone in hVIVO’s operations and reflects the company’s commitment to advancing scientific research.
Since 1989, hLAB has been instrumental in supporting clinical trials. However, with a surge in demand for hVIVO's human challenge trials (HCTs), existing laboratory capacity was reached. A strategic relocation to a new facility in Canary Wharf has allowed the company to triple its laboratory space, paving the way for the hLAB services to operate independently.
The newly established laboratory features a state-of-the-art Containment Level 3 (CL-3) facility, recently cleared by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). This accreditation enables hLAB to work with hazard group 3 pathogens, which include various high-risk viruses and bacteria. The expansion of hLAB's assay portfolio now accommodates additional pathogens such as Omicron, human metapneumovirus (hMPV), and new strains of influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
In addition to these advancements, hLAB has introduced a biobank, which has received approval from the UK Research Ethics Committee. This biobank will provide invaluable biological samples to researchers engaged in vaccine development, immunology, and respiratory studies. Through these enhancements, hVIVO is solidifying its position as a leader in the Contract Research Organization (CRO) sector, catering to the increasing demands of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
