- Hemogenyx gains an option to license Kure.ai’s UM technology for further clinical applications.
Hemogenyx Pharmaceuticals PLC (LSE:HEMO, OTC:HOPHF), a UK-based biopharmaceutical company specialising in blood cancer treatments, has entered a strategic collaboration with Kure.ai. The partnership aims to develop an ultrafast manufacturing (UM) process for CAR-T cell therapies, with the goal of significantly reducing production times while maintaining therapeutic efficacy.
Addressing Critical Challenges in CAR-T Therapy
The partnership focuses on Hemogenyx’s proprietary CAR-T therapy, HG-CT-1 (formerly HEMO-CAR-T), which targets acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) and a specific subset of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) characterised by KMT2A rearrangement. Traditional CAR-T manufacturing processes are time-intensive and costly, often delaying treatment for patients with aggressive cancers.
Dr. Vladislav Sandler, Hemogenyx’s founder and CEO, commented: “One of the most significant challenges in CAR-T therapy is the time and cost associated with manufacturing. Our partnership with Kure.ai allows us to explore and integrate a cutting-edge ultrafast manufacturing process that has the potential to revolutionise CAR-T production. This collaboration is an important step toward accelerating patient access to life-saving therapies.”
Key Objectives of the Collaboration
Under the agreement, the companies will jointly develop a bespoke UM process tailored to HG-CT-1. The initiative will involve:
- Customised Development: Kure.ai will adapt its advanced UM technology to align with the specific requirements of HG-CT-1.
- Clinical Validation: Hemogenyx will conduct clinical studies to evaluate the therapy's effectiveness in treating AML and KMT2A-rearranged ALL.
- Technical and Material Support: Hemogenyx will provide essential materials, including lentiviral vectors, and contribute technical expertise for process development and testing.
- In Vitro Testing: Rigorous testing will confirm the potency and vector copy number of CAR-T cells produced using the UM platform.
Potential for Scalable and Efficient Production
The collaboration represents a significant advance in overcoming the scalability and speed challenges that have historically constrained CAR-T therapy production. By shortening the time required to manufacture CAR-T cells, the initiative has the potential to improve treatment accessibility for patients facing aggressive cancers.
If successful, Hemogenyx will have the option to license Kure.ai’s UM technology, enabling the company to extend its use in further clinical trials. This flexibility underscores the scalability and broader application potential of the collaboration.
Positioning for the Future
The partnership comes at a time of growing demand for efficient, innovative approaches to cancer treatment. Hemogenyx’s focus on improving production efficiency aligns with its broader mission of advancing patient care through cutting-edge technology.
This strategic collaboration is poised to position both Hemogenyx and Kure.ai as leaders in the rapidly evolving field of CAR-T therapy, offering hope for faster, more accessible treatment options for patients with life-threatening conditions.
